Mazatlán, also known as “The Pacific Pearl”, is one of the Mexico’s premier resort areas. Its scenic beauty is complemented by a delightful festive atmosphere and a wealth of exciting activities.
Mazatlán is situated on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, almost directly across from the southern tip of the Baja peninsula. Mazatlán has its own airport, as well as a regular ferry service to La Paz.
Although Mazatlán is one of Mexico’s most popular vacation destinations, it is also reputed as being the largest deep-water port in Mexico, with a bustling economy independent of the tourism industry. This duality adds an interesting cosmopolitan flavor to this unique city.
Mazatlan also benefits from a rich colonial past, which is bared witness to by the beautifully conserved historic centre, with its elegant facades and romantic walking streets. The most famous public space in the historic centre is the Plaza Machado. It is here that you can experience the traditions and vibrant heritage of the city’s founders.
The City is concentrated in two areas: In the north, there is the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone) where the majority of Mazatlan´s hotels and restaurants are located. In the south there is El Centro (downtown), the heart of the city’s cultural and economic life. These two centres are linked by Avenue Del Mar, also known as El Malecón, which is a scenic beach-front avenue that links these two areas.
